Shop for Skateboard Decks Online in Australia
There are many advantages to buying a skateboard deck online. The in stock range across all stores is vastly bigger than any one shop, and you can compare prices to find the best deals.
Find the deck you’re after
When you visit skate shops, you’ll find no two are ever the same. They all carry different brands, different lines within those brands, and have different stock levels. This is especially true when it comes to skateboard decks. If you ever have your eye on something specific, it can be very difficult to find.
We here at Skateboarder do collect the odd board here and there. You’ll hear about its release online, look forward to grabbing one when they land in the country, but it’s not always that simple. I’ve had to buy boards from Greece as it was the only country with stock. Sometimes if you blink or find out about a board late, you’ve already missed out.
The best way to ensure you get what you’re after is to have a connect with your local skate shop. They can stick one aside for you as soon as they come into stock. Not always the most reliable approach with all skate shops, but if you have a good connect you’re set.
The other option, which is new for 2021, is to keep an eye on Skateboarder. We track upcoming releases and we’ll bring the info to you. When they hit the shelves we’ll be looking at who has them in stock and at what price. When the stock runs out we’ll be looking at alternatives such as auction sites and classifieds.
What to consider when buying a Skateboard Deck
When you’re looking at decks, most people talk about size using the width. Standard width will be in the range of 7.5″ to 9″, with some old school ones being wider again.
As a generic guide, people often consider shoe size when it comes to choosing the width of the board. The bigger your feet the wider the board. Height and weight also come into play.
What size you choose will have an impact on the way you skate. Narrower decks are easy to flip than wider decks and are suited more towards technical skating. Wider ones however offer more stability and more room when landing tricks. As such, longer and wider boards are suited more to ramps and high speed.
There is no such thing as male or female decks, they are all unisex.
Free Griptape, Free Shipping
Most Australian skate shops provide free shipping when you buy a certain $ amount. As decks are often in the range of $100+, you’ll find your order may qualify for free delivery. As an added bonus many also offer a free griptape option. You can choose to upgrade this by spending a few extra dollars, or leave it as is with a basic sheet. Some are kind enough to throw the griptape on the deck as well if you prefer.
