Coolum Beach Skatepark

Coolum Beach Skatepark is a well developed and decent sized park right next to the beach. Comparing to older photos of this park it’s clear there has been an upgrade. The main U shaped bowl has had an overhaul for sure. The two tone blue and grey colour scheme of the bowl surface is a nice touch. It’s quite large a bowl and is a real treat to ride. Most of the way around it looks 6 foot deep with a taller section on one end that is closer to 7 foot. This beast is very fast and also slippery, so it can be unforgivingly solid if you slam. The best idea would be to pad up and wear a helmet for this one.

Other obstacles in a street line include a sloped rail down the bank ending with a 4-5 foot quarter.  Also there are ledges to work with on the perimeter near the main bowl which are standard. Alongside the rail there’s the shallow pill shaped mini bowl about 3 foot deep. It’s a favourite for the little shredders and scooter kids, as at least it has a transition and some good coping.  What is also very impressive is the total shade this park is in.  It’s well covered by an array of shade sails this would be a godsend in summer.

Take note that this park can get extremely busy at peak times.

How to get to Coolum Beach Skatepark?

Not too hard to find it’s right on the beach on the main road, 1790 David Low way. It’s in Tickle Park. There’s a public carpark with over 100 spaces so parking is pretty convenient if driving. There are Bus services that stop along David Low Way, check out the timetables online.
