Paddington Skatepark

Paddington Skatepark is arguably one of Brisbane’s most popular skate spots. According to Brisbane City Council the upgrades to the park were $1.18 million. The new park has been open since early 2017.

For those who are unfamiliar Paddington Skatepark is only a couple of km’s west of Brisbane City. It’s also close to Suncorp Stadium. The money seems well spent. There’s more obstacles and the green painted concrete is very smooth and fast. It might take a couple of hip slams to work out it’s quite faster then the old surface. The main parts of the park remain such as the large bank, funbox in centre and the bowl at the end.

There’s a wide variety to skate including curved keyhole transitions, volcanoes, rails, ledges, banks, 3 sided bowl and more and more.

The old concrete half pipe is no longer there however. If your out of breath you can sit on one of several concrete bench seats underneath the huge Jacaranda tree in the centre of the park :). This place has lights so you can shred to your hearts content up till around 10pm. Doesn’t appear to be any toilets, perhaps one near the tennis courts need to confirm.

Check out a compilation vid from the re-opening of the park back in 2018. The clip was put together by ASCi and the action starts about a minute in. It’ll give you a quick insight into what sort of lines you can be shredding around here.

HOW TO GET TO PADDINGTON SKATEPARK

You’ll find this spot just off the well known Caxton St. It’s nearly directly opposite the Stadium, so pretty easy to find if you use that as your reference point. There’s two train stations nearby that are an easy skate away. Roma St being one so you can get directly there from most lines in Brisbane. You’ll also find several bus services stop nearby. Use the Translink site or app to keep up to date with the latest timetables.

This place can get extremely busy at peak times. If you’re looking for a snake free skate this spot is not ideal when school is out.

  1. Paddo is probably not the best place to go if you are a beginner. There’s a group of super dedicated skaters who hang out there 24/7 doing crazy lines and can be super intimidating to hop in the fray, although they don’t bite and can be quite friendly so long as you don’t snake them or fuck up their line. Besides that, Paddo is a super sweet park and the talent there is awesome. Definitely recommend the trip out or a pit stop if you’re in the area.

  2. I’ve been here with my young skate enthusiasts and found the crowd so friendly and accomodating, a lovely bunch! My kids are generally understanding of not getting in the way but being younger they are not perfect, no one took issue with them. I recommend this park for all ages just ensure kids understand the etiquette.
