Byron Bay Skatepark

Gilmore Cres, Byron Bay NSW 2481, Australia

Not really sure whether you’d call this a skatepark, a bowl, or something else altogether. There isn’t much on offer here. You’ll find a really small rounded bowl, a small pyramid, a bit of DIY and some rough concrete. There is also a concrete slab extension which I’m assuming is for the Byron Bay Skatepark. I say assuming as when I visited last the beachside markets were on, and the visitors seemed to assume the concrete was a car park. Perhaps they were just adding an extra element for the skateboarders…

Considering this is Byron Bay, an alternative beachside tourist hotspot, it’s really not what you’d expect from the skatepark. The YAC is next door but aside from that it also has no seats, water or any facilities. There is a light, perhaps one of the locals could fill us in on whether it stays on or not.

Getting to Byron Bay Skatepark

Well if you’re really keen, you’ll find it on Gilmore Crescent. The street is split in the middle so you’ll need to enter from the northern end off Lawson St. You can park on the southern side side and/or walk through, however I wouldn’t recommend it. There are people everywhere in the bush surrounding the lane. The skate park itself is tucked away at the back of the Byron Youth Activity Centre. Turn right before it and walk into the open space. You’ll see it to your left at the corner of the fence line.

Alternatives

You’ll be looking very quickly for an alternative place to skate, and luckily there’s a few around. Suffolk Park is just down the road, whilst Lennox Heads, Ballina and Bangalow are a small drive away.
