Canungra Skatepark

Moriarty Park in Canungra is where you’ll find this slab of concrete more affectionately known as Canungra Skatepark. It’s down the back of the sports fields and not visible from the road.

The Scenic Rim Council has it named as Moriarty Skatepark.

Canungra Skatepark is a difficult one to explain. It’s bordered on two sides by a 3ft curved quarter with metal coping. This is quite a long element. Calling it a quarter pipe may be a bit of a stretch though, as it’s more like a flat bank with a small transition at the base. In the middle of the flat there’s a 3ft pyramid, and in the corner a 3 sided 2ft high bank. As with anything, the skate park is what you make of it, but really there’s not many lines you can try here. I dare say you’ll be looking elsewhere pretty quickly if you have a choice.

I guess the best indication of the popularity of the park would be the photos. They were taken around 3:30pm on a  school day. Not a single scooter in sight, nor anyone for that matter.

The skatepark is part of a much larger park that has sporting fields, exercise equipment, basketball, tennis, playground, dog park and a swimming pool. There wasn’t anyone using any of these either, so perhaps its the town and not just the quality of the skatepark that’s keeping everyone away.

Getting to Canungra Skatepark

The skatepark is not far off Beaudesert Nerang Rd, which is the main drag running through Canungra. You’ll find the park on the corner of Coburg Rd and Monarch Dr. You can park on either and walk, however Monarch Dr has off street parking at the football club. To find the skatepark, look across the sporting fields and you’ll see a standalone shelter and seats. Walk towards this shelter until you see the skatepark.
