Varsity Lakes Skatepark was given a major face lift a few years back. It has gone from a small street style setup with banks and quarter to being a pretty big park. There is a lot on offer at this spot as it stretches over some 70m.
The bowl is huge. It runs from around 3ft in the shallow end to around 10ft in the deep. It has a split line from shallow to deep, with one side going to a big cradle and hip. There is a lot of flat ground in the deep so you need to pick your lines carefully if you want to maintain speed. The deep has a 1-2ft extension and rollin just behind the cradle as well as a small rainbow style extension in one corner. The bowl is fairly smooth but has a few kinks here and there. It has metal coping all round.
The street section stretches over a hill from the car park to the bowl. There are ledges, hubbas, rails, stairs, euro gaps, quarters and banks everywhere.
Varsity is easy to find as it’s just off Reedy Creek Rd (between the M1 and Burleigh Heads) and there’s parking available. Having been upgraded it has all the extras such as seats, shelter, bins, water and bathrooms. It’s around 1km from the Varsity Lakes train station, and buses stop right next to it, so public transport is an option. The nearest shop is just across the road and there’s plenty more around.
