Tucked away in the little town of Nimbin in northern NSW is one epic skatepark. What really stands out is the snake run. This thing is huge, tight and intense. It starts off with a 5ft bowl and then starts its run on a slight downhill, curving the whole time. It makes its way around a few tight bends with extensions up around the 7ft mark. And at the foot of the run is the big bowl standing around 9 to 10ft. This is definitely not for beginners and there’s been quite a bit of claret left around this section of Nimbin Skatepark.
The park does cater for all levels though with smaller bowls and transitions. At the entry there’s a 3ft mini ramp with metal coping. There’s also a 3ft bowl with pool coping, steps and and a few hips. The next step up is a 4 1/2ft bowl with a spine and a 6ft extension. It has metal coping all round and wide platforms. From here the next step is the snake and big bowl.
There’s plenty of street around with small quarters, ledges, rails and banks. The wooden ledge made from a tree trunk is pretty rad, and there’s quite a few different add ons here. A concrete bench seat extending from a bank, a wave ramp onto a concrete seat.
The skatepark has makeshift lights but not sure if they get used as I’ve only skated during the day. A viewing platform sits just above the snake run so you can watch all the action. There’s plenty of seats and shade around the entire park. There’s also drinking water. Next to the skatepark is a playground and an open grass area. The nearest shops are up the hill in the town centre.
Getting to Nimbin Skatepark
Well this place is a fair way out, so you’ll want to be driving or perhaps take a bus. Sibley St comes off the main road, and the skate park is pretty close to the town centre so it’s not difficult to find. There’s no real parking around so just find a spot as close as you can on the side of the road.
